The neutrino was the first elementary particle proposed that was not a constituent of ordinary matter. Because neutrinos interact only weakly, they play a unique role in particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology. The possibility that neutrinos have a mass and oscillate from one form to another has led to a great variety of ongoing experiments.
